Worship Styles Throughout each month, we use different music styles within our three services. The various services employed are: Traditional Communion service from the Evangelical Lutheran Book of Worship (ELW). - 8:15 am This service order and hymns come from our rich heritage of worship(ELW Red Book). Scripture readings will follow the Standard Lectionary.
- 10:30 am This service will offer updated popular Christian praise and worship songs.
Healing Services are held on the 5th Sunday, a healing sacrament is offered during the normal communion time.
Comtemplative Services Wednesday @ 7:00 p. m. during Advent and Lent. In these services we hear God's word, prayerfully anticipated the fulfillment of God's promises in our lives and our world. Worship services generally include blended music, and frequently include drama presentations and special readings. While the style of the service changes, the basics of the service remain the same. The Parish Education committee is excited to announce a new curriculum we will be using this year. It is called Rock Solid! This curriculum engages young hearts and minds with age-appropriate multisensory activities, crafts, stories, and games, all designed to give children an opportunity to know God through Jesus and experience life-changing transformation! Each week the children will experience:
- Fellowship and community building that develops meaningful relationships
- A compelling Bible story that captures their attention
- The relevance of the Bible story to their everyday lives
- Worship time designed to reach their hearts and create a personal response to God
We are very excited to be able to offer this opportunity to our children!
The adult class, lead by Vivian Waid, meets in the Library during the Sunday School hour. All adults of all ages are welcome! This year we are offering a Bible study called Living in and as God’s Creation. This will include looking into the book of Psalms, Job, Ecclesiastes, and Proverbs. All of life is a gift from God to be honored and received with gratitude. Even in difficult times of this gift we receive meaning when we look to God and ourselves. This study will show us God’s faithfulness, love, sustenance, joy, and delight as we live in and as God’s creation. We hope to see everyone there!

A cry room for restless tots is located at the back of the sanctuary. The cry room is carpeted and glass enclosed with the sounds of the service piped in. A staffed nursery is also available for children 3 and under. Elevator access to the sanctuary is available. Following the service, there is a time for coffee and visiting in the Youth Room/Basement.
What to Expect We want you to feel welcome to join us for worship. We will not try to do anything that will make you feel uncomfortable. A typical Lutheran service is interactive with the congregation involved through singing, reading and praying. Feel free to participate in any portion of the service or just watch, listen and learn. If you have any questions or need assistance in any way, ask one of the ushers. Like the vast majority of Lutheran churches, Mt. Si has a liturgical worship service. The music and songs used on any particular Sunday will change depending upon whether we are using a traditional, contemporary or folk style of worship. Regardless of the style, the service will contain most or all of the following: Confession and Forgiveness We believe that everyone is a sinner and needs the salvation of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. We usually open our service with the words of confession and forgiveness. Bible Readings There will usually be 4 readings from the Bible on each Sunday. These are taken from the Old Testament, Psalms, a New Testament letter, and one of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). Children's Sermon The children are invited to come sit at the front of the sanctuary to hear a special message from the pastor. Sermon The pastor's sermon is usually related to one of the Bible readings for the day. It provides an opportunity for the pastor to explain difficult passages and show how the Bible is no less relevant to our lives today than it was nearly 2000 years ago. Holy Communion We believe that we receive the body and blood of Jesus Christ in, with and under the bread and wine we consume during the Lord's Supper. Everyone who believes that Jesus Christ died for their sins is welcome to join us in Holy Communion. We proceed to the alter and kneel (if able) to receive the bread and wine. To receive grape juice instead of wine, simply hold up one finger while waiting for the pastor to distribute the wine. Children may come to the altar to receive a blessing. If you are physically unable to proceed to the altar, notify an usher and Holy Communion can be distributed to you in your pew. If you do not wish to participate in Holy Communion, simply remain seated in your pew. Prayer Through our prayers, we can communicate with God. Our prayers of joy, concern, praise and thanksgiving are all brought to God. Creed Reciting one of the creeds (usually either the Apostles or Nicene creed) is an expression of our beliefs. Hymns Music is another of the many gifts we bring to God. You may join in the singing or just listen to the words. Offering This is the time when we can give back to God a portion of the gifts He has so generously given us. Please do not feel obligated to contribute. Even many regulars contribute only biweekly or monthly, so no one will think twice if you simply pass the offering plate on by. A piece of candy provides extra incentive! Sharing of the Peace This is a chance to greet some of the people around you and share the peace of our Lord. Everyone wandersaround a bit shaking hands and sharing greetings such as "Peace of the Lord" or just a simple "Good morning!" |
