Community Garden Home  | Garden Photos  | Garden Timeline  | Garden Plots

After two successful and productive work days we have completed construction and have started planting. Now is the time to sign up for a plot in the garden to grow vegetables. Please contact Beth Luna to sign up for a plot. Thanks to all of you who have participated so far. We are looking forward to a great growing season.

The next work party is March 15th at Noon. We will be staining the fence around the garden. All are welcome, bring your brushes.

We have several beds dedicated to growing fresh vegetables for the food bank. This will allow us to provide fresh produce for families in our community. We are strongly recommending the square foot gardening method if you choose to adopt a bed. Two books on square foot gardening by Mel Bartholomew are available for checkout from the church library. Everyone is welcome to adopt a bed and grow their own vegetables. The plot sizes can be as small as 4X4 or as large as 4X8. You will be responsible for planting, watering and tending to your garden. We ask that 10 percent of your harvest be donated to the food bank basket which will be delivered to the food bank Monday mornings.

Some excellent resources are http://www.squarefootgardening.com/, http://www.gardeners.com/ look for the Kitchen Gardener Planner.

If you do not want to take care of a specific plot but still want to get involved we have jobs for watering, weeding between the beds and harvesting. If you have any questions contact Beth Luna.

Garden Guidelines.

We'd like the garden to be organic, meaning pesticide and chemical free.
We'd like to stay away from big, obtrusive garden structures. Small green house type coverings will be fine, but we don't want to break the look and feel of the garden.
Please feel free to grow whatever you'd like, but remember 10% of your harvest should go to the food bank basket.
Please call me with questions ( Beth 206-979-0204 or email).
